About This Project
For this project, my team and I did an usability study on the Frisco Soccer Association (FSA) website. FSA is one of the premier recreational soccer leagues in the DFW area, but its website does not reflect that. Our usability testing was based on the FSA user study we had done earlier. As a team, when we visited the site, we found that pertinent information on the site was hard to find, outdated, and some key features were not there or buried in the sub-pages.
Data Collection Process
We conducted think-aloud protocol interviews with six participants (25-70 years old). They performed four tasks on a shared screen and narrated their thought process out loud. The four tasks they performed were:
TASK 1: Tour the home page without clicking on any links and talk about their impressions of the site.
TASK 2: Find information on enrolling a child on one of the FSA teams.
TASK 3: Find information on how to volunteer as a coach.
TASK 4: Find schedule for U-10 team.

Drawing Conclusions

After we collected all our data, we evaluated it during two Teams meetings and started working on the slide doc report. We sifted through a lot of data and decided to showcase the most relevant information in an easy-to-read slides, that were a combination of bar charts and infographics.

KEY TAKEAWAYS
Based on user interactions and the results of TAP, Card Sort, and Expert Evaluation, we made the following recommendations to improve the usability of the FSA website.
-
Add “Coaches” link to the top navigation menu to make it easy for coaches and parents to see information about coaching schedules. It will also make it easier for parents to find information on how to be a volunteer coach.
-
Remove underlined text that is a not a hyperlink to avoid user confusion and reduce bounce rates.
-
Make better use of screen real estate by expanding the viewing screen.
-
Remove extraneous and duplicate information to avoid information clutter loss.
-
Make information relevant and update the site regularly so Christmas ads are not on the page in July.
-
Use consistent typography and color to make key information stand out.
